Biblio Art Prize 2020

Blarney Books & Art in Port Fairy curate a fabulous art competition known as Biblio Art Prize where Artist are allocated a novel to read and be inspired by to create an artwork. Margaret’s novel was by Australian author Anna Krien – Act of Grace.

She was selected as one of the finalists in this art prize and her painting River Crossing was bought by a Melbourne art collector.

After reading Act of Grace she created the painting titled River Crossing. It is a beautifully written novel, but tragic and dark narrative about how the four protagonists are affected by their traumatic life experiences. She depicted these characters as four living trees, whose intertwined branches and roots reflected their crossed paths and interconnected encounters. Each tree carries symbols telling of key events in the characters’ lives – look closely and the identity of each becomes clear. In order to heal all four must cross the swirling river of life.
